WSU Celebrates National Transfer Week with Fall 2021 Events
Washington State University’s Transfer Center for Policy and Resources has scheduled a week of workshops, presentations, and engaging activities for students during National Transfer Student Week, Oct. 18-22.
“Thousands of current and prospective WSU undergraduates are transfer students, and the week’s events aim to raise their profile, offer them intentional support and resources, and acknowledge what they bring to WSU,” said Waylon Safranski, transfer center director.
He credits the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students with the inspiration for the celebration, and said the WSU events are unique to the school and celebrate the university’s many people and programs who contribute year-round to transfer student success.
Champion the transfer experience
The webpage focused on the week describes 21 events, workshops, and fun activities. It also features profiles of transfer students and members of the WSU community.
Established in 2015, the transfer center is a program in the Division of Academic Engagement and Student Achievement in the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President.
Center coordinators Heather Reyes and Laura Welch engaged with partners across campus to build out the robust week-long schedule.
“The national theme this year is ‘These Transfer Shoes: Step into My Journey’ and we are dedicated to acknowledging the value of the transfer pathway and using it to increase access and equity, ’” said Reyes.
“We organized the week so that current and prospective students as well as faculty and staff can learn about many aspects of transfer students’ experiences and opportunities,” Welch said.
There is even a special session on Tuesday for advisors and counselors outside WSU who work with students interested in transferring to Washington State.
